Izzy Ablewhite

Izzy is an empathetic photojournalist. She loves all genres of photography from fashion to event to sport, however, she’s primarily focused on photojournalism. She’s passionate about the power photography has to educate the world through telling peoples' stories.

This was discovered when she did a profound photographic series on her disabled brother, Nick, exploring the way she could tell his story through her photographs. Thus began her love of storytelling through photojournalism. She has now completed a photographic book portraying the story of her non-binary queer friend Bel and is currently working on a photographic series documenting the current BLM movement.

She’s worked with up and coming bands: Louis and the Shakes and French Beaches by doing gig photography and studio shoots. Additionally, she has photographed the BTS for numerous short films that have been nominated and shortlisted at a range of film competitions.

Dravet syndrome is a rare epileptic encephalopathy genetic disorder affecting 1 in 20,000 to 40,000 births. Izzy Ablewhite's brother, Nickolas Ablewhite, is one of these people. A week after Nick’s first birthday he had his first seizure. Initially, he stopped walking, stopped talking and was rushed off to the local hospital. Since that day he’s been in and out of many different hospitals, tried numerous mixes of medication whilst singing along to the “Thomas the tank engine” theme song on repeat. 17 years later he was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome. In the simplest terms - he has the body of a 22 year old but a mind of a 1 year old, who has seizures. This is Nick’s “seizure diary”
