Emily Grace Kirby
Emily’s collection was inspired by the 1991 installation by Annette Messager called ‘historie des robes’. From this, she looked into ‘Womanhouse’, the installation created by Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro in the early 1970s in which they showcased the work of feminist artists and gave women a space to share their experiences through performance art. With her collection, she wanted to explore what femininity means to her. Having previously interned at Shrimps, print and texture became a key component to her work. Using a mixture of old and new fabrics, as well as knit and screen printing, she wanted to capture the female form from a different perspective, each look telling its own story.
