Catherine Rees

Catherine is a dedicated student in Fashion Buying & Brand Management and expressed herself through aesthetics and colour experimentation whilst simultaneously paying meticulous attention to detail. Her Indonesian background and multicultural upbringing catalysed her dissertation on distinguishing between cultural appropriation and appreciation particularly within south east asian culture. For her Final Major Project, Catherine explored eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives to plastic sunglasses to reduce the environmental impact plastic has on the ecosystem. From this, Ikomata was created which allowed her to design trend-led sunglasses, experiment with branding and create sustainable eyewear packaging from double-seeded paper.

During her time at Ravensbourne University, Catherine immersed herself in the opportunities that the university offered which resulted in her being on the winning team of Kingpins Denim’s creative collaboration project showcasing the team’s work in Amsterdam and New York as well as being shortlisted to present in front of Heads of Buying and Merchandising at Boden HQ. Furthermore, her experience as Press Intern at luxury brand Emilia Wickstead deepened her drive to propel in the fashion industry.
