‘The Beauty of Mending’ is a premium book featuring fine art photography, visuals and written content based around the unexpected beauty of “worn” clothes and the lost art of mending. Inspired by the Japanese concepts of ‘Wabi-sabi’ which is defined as the aesthetic of imperfection. The book is an A4 scale book with a hard-bound linen cover, enclosing 100 pages of 135gsm paper, featuring primarily visual and some written content surrounding the theme of mending.
Title page of 'A Stitch In Time' which features an article and imagery from the Zenzie Tinker Conservation studio. The photo depicts a conservator at Zenzie Tinker Conservation Ltd reattaching original linen lining to an 18th Century bed cloth from Leeds Castle.
An image from the 'Precious Flaw' chapter of the book, featuring imagery based on the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold, known as ‘Kintsugi' and an interview with one of Golden Joinery's founders, Margreet Sweerts.
Title page of 'Preservation', a chapter of the book exploring the bizarrely beautiful cocoon of the clothes moth.
Double page spread from 'The Lost Art' chapter of the book, featuring imagery of mended denim and an interview with Rebecca Barton, founder of sustainable brand Pajotten.
