Henny Woods
Henny is a filmmaker concerned with humanistic narratives executed in innovative ways. Since her dissertation in her final year Henny has discovered Artists’ Moving Image and has been exploring this genre in her film projects since. Her films involve a documentary style realism conveying aspects of the unconscious mind such as memories. She is influenced by video artists such as Nam June Paik and Pipilotti Rist. The result is a DIY, emotive and sometimes comedic video art installation.
A still from 'Video Art for Insomniacs' made in conjunction with Henny's dissertation about audience engagement of video art.
‘Video Art for Insomniacs’ is an art film that aims to guide people suffering with sleeplessness to an anxiety free night. The film is about accepting sleeplessness and attempting to look at it as a beautiful thing. Henny visually represents the idea of soul fragmentation with two circles as insomnia can often be caused by a ‘tug of war’ between two parts of yourself wanting different things. The coming together of the circles represents the acknowledging each part of his mind’s desires. It ends with a spiritual dream space in-between sleep and awake until she finally drifts off.
A still from 'Echoes of Difficult Conversations During Lockdown' which was Henny's FMP. It's an art film exploring her own past uncomfortable conversations with people in a time when socialising is impossible. We all crave intimacy with others despite how painful they can be, that’s what it means to be human.
